Earlier, it was about converting your desktop website design into mobile design, later some designers started talking about a mobile first design. The year 2017 is going to be a deciding year as people are going to use mobile for shopping more than desktops.

This means more and more sites are using the hidden hamburger menu that people have grown used to. Also because mobile and tablets have limited screen space to offer, mobile sites will have to use full width of the screen space available to them.

Material Design

The Material Design by Google was released in the year 2014 for Android devices, and since then it has steadily grown in popularity and influence. Some people have argued that this was a clever way to brand the Android platform. More and more online eCommerce websites have now decided to use the new card style layout.

Lazy Loading and Long Scrolling

Mobile Internet is still not where it is supposed to be and speeds can be an issue at times. Hence it is important to enable lazy loading which means that instead of loading the entire page at the same time, elements are loaded on a per screen basis. As you scroll below, more images and elements are loaded thereby increasing the page load times significantly, and improving the user experience.

A good example is a product page from an eCommerce page that has hundreds of products featured, and as the user scrolls down, more products keep popping up.
